100 year commemorative tour to Canberra

Canberra Trip

To commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Anzac day, the RSL Tweed Heads & Coolangatta sub branch has nominated students in Tweed Heads based on their writings to attend a fully funded day trip to Canberra to participate in a special tour of the Australian War memorial. Mrs Sarah Sykes submitted the writings of her English class last year for the competition and fifteen, Year 9 students from Pacific Coast Christian School were chosen for their story commemorating Gallipoli in a writing competition organised by the RSL Coolangatta/Tweed Heads.

On Tuesday 10th March, students caught a flight to Canberra and spent the day visiting the Australian War memorial, attending an education session and wreath laying ceremony. Students attending the event were Amy Wyatt, Arielle Holland, Bianca Forrest, Braedon Holland, Caitlyn Knowles, Corey Jensen, Emma Ellis, Italy Tamaira Cooper, Jada Ngan-Woo, Kristen Doniger, Kruze Wilkin, Madison and Tyra-Jai Kawecki, Tatyana Leontieff-Smith, Sam Menin.

“I am so excited, I have always been interested in Gallipoli and my Great Grandfather on my mother’s side was in the war, I will be looking for his name on the wall. I have never been to the memorial before.” Remarked Arielle Holland. Students returned to Coolangatta on a chartered flight with other students from Coolangatta/Tweed that evening.
